Does my club have to join the USFA?
No. But, if your club does not join the USFA, it does not belong to the Gulf Coast Texas Division, There
are many rights and privileges available only to clubs belonging to the Division.
Can my club be a current member of the USFA and not realize it?
Yes, but it's not likely that you'd forget something like this.
Unlike individual memberships, there is no three-year club membership, so your club has to have joined
relatively recently if it belongs to the USFA now.
If you recently submitted a membership application, the question is whether your club is yet a
member, not if it is still a member.
See the question, "Is my club currently a member of the USFA?".
Is my club currently a member of the USFA?
Did you receive, during this fencing year, the club membership packet which the USFA sends to clubs which
join the USFA? If so, your club is a member for this fencing year, or the USFA got very confused,
If you have not (yet) received the club membership packet which the USFA sends to clubs which join the
USFA, your club could still be a current member if you joined
recently. Sometimes the oacket takes a while to arrive in the mail. There are other ways to check on
your club's membership. If you don't know or can't remember if you received a membership packet during
the current fencing year, you have no choice but to try the other ways.
From time to time, the Division gets a list of its club members, which might just have arrived, faster
than your membership card. Take a look at the "Clubs" Web page. Take a look at
the listing of your club. If your club does not even appear, then it was not a member when the page was
last updated. (Take a look at other clubs for any notes about what date they were observed not to belong
to the USFA. If it is a long time ago, your club may be a recent member club.) If your club is present
and there is a note about not being a member, then your club was not a member on the date of that note. And,
when the new fencing year begins, your club could no longer be a member even if you are
listed unless there is some indication that the page was updated more recently than the start of the
new fencing year.
From time to time the Southwest Section gets a list of its member clubs. (All member clubs of the Gulf Coast
Texas Division are member clubs of the Southwest Section.) Take a look at the
Section's membership Web page (links
to actual club membership lists are there). Pay attention to the date on the page. If it is old and you
are missing, your club may be a recent member. And, if it is dated before August 1st and it is now after
August 1st, your club may no longer be a member even if your club is listed. Note that the Section lists
do have clubs with expired memberships too, which are listed in red print, and with a membership
type mentioning being a member club in the previous year.
As a last resort. go straight to the horse's mouth. Ask the USFA
by telephone, fax, or e-mail if your club is a member.
How does my club join the USFA?
Fill out a USFA club membership form and
deliver it to the USFA. You can mail it, and you can fax it if payment is by credit card.
Does the Division have fencing equipment my club can borrow?
Yes. The Division owns some fencing equipment, but only scoring equipment (boxes, floor cords, reels). The
Bylaws specify "The [Equipment] committee shall maintain and store the equipment at a location or locations as
designated by the Division Executive Committee, but shall not be located at a club for club
use." Other than that, the Executive Committee set priorities for the loan of this equipment at
its November 2, 2004 meeting. The normal reason a club borrows the
equipment is a tournament, but occasionally it is some other special event of a club.
The equipment is one old scoring box not conforming to current rules and two complete sets of scoring
equipment. The complete sets have
Favero FULL-ARM-05 scoring boxes (capable of
both "old timings" and "new timings" and
Favero Millennium reels. The equipment
is not lent with any extension cords.
To request a loan of the equipment, contact the Equipment
Committee (see the "Contact" page).
