Gulf Coast Texas Division Equipment

Overview

The Division owns a limited supply of scoring equipment (scoring boxes, reels, and floor cords). These were initially purchased so the Division could satisfy certain obligations to provide equipment on special occasions. However, they are also available for loan, principally for tournaments, and principally within the Division.

Policies

Bylaws

Equipment Committee: The Chair of the Equipment Committee shall have charge of all competition equipment owned by, or in the custody of, THE DIVISION. The committee shall maintain and store the equipment at a location or locations a designated by the Division Executive Committee, but shall not be located at a club for club use. The Chair of this committee shall also be responsible for making periodic reports as to the status of the equipment, and for ensuring the transport of the equipment to Divisional qualifying competitions, Sectional qualifying competitions and such other competitions as THE DIVISION may be required to provide equipment.

Executive Committee Resolutions

The Equipment Committee shall have the authority to loan scoring equipment owned by the Division, provided that priority for loan purposes be 1) to SSCC tournaments and Sectionals to satisfy obligations of the Division to those tournaments, 2) to divisional qualifier tournaments, 3) to ordinary divisional tournaments, 4) to unsanctioned tournaments in the Division, sanctioned tournaments physically within the Division but under national auspices instead of under the auspices of the Division, and non-tournament use involving or relating to the Division, and then 5) other sanctioned tournaments not under the auspices of the Division, and provided that priority for conflicting loans be in the order the requests are received when there is insufficient difference in 1) the priority of the intended loan purpose, 2) the extent to which the conflicting requesting parties have already recently been beneficiaries of loans, and 3) the ability of the parties to cope without the loan. For all loans, the borrower must sign an agreement describing the loan and listing any pre-existing damage to the equipment. For for-profit non-tournament use, the equipment is to be rented rather than lent free of charge, but the borrower will still have all responsibility as would exist if lent free of charge. The Executive Committee recommends the rental fee for fencing year 2006-2007 be $75 for two sets of scoring equipment per week. Any single borrower shall not be lent equipment for non-tournament use for more than a cumulative total of two weeks in any single fencing year.

Equipment Committee Policies

  • General Policies
    • With the unofficial blessing of the Executive Committee: Requests to borrow only a portion of the contents of a carrying case and requests to borrow contents of a carrying case without also borrowing the carrying case will be discouraged except when there is an obvious explanation.
    • With the endorsement of the Executive Committee Oct. 10, 2007: When a loan of only a portion of the equipment normally in any given carrying case is requested, the request to borrow the reduced amount of equipment will be granted at the discretion of the Equipment Committee, and, when the Equipment Committee declines to loan as little as is actually requested, the borrower will be responsible for the unrequested equipment equally as much as the requested equipment.
  • Policies Only for For-Profit Non-Tournament Use
    • With the unofficial blessing of the Executive Committee: Rental fees use for one complete set of strip equipment will be calculated for the number of days, fractional days rounded up to an integer, for the requested loan period, at a rate of one-fourteenth of the weekly rate for two complete sets of strip equipment.
    • With the unofficial blessing of the Executive Committee: Any additional time beforehand, between closely-spaced loans, or afterward, when the equipment is not requested for use but the equipment is in the possession of the borrower for the convenience of the borrower (but not for any extra days when the equipment is in the possession of the borrower for the convenience of the Division), rounded down to an integral number of days, will be added to the loan period for calculation of rental fees.
    • With the endorsement of the Executive Committee Oct. 10, 2007: Loans will be limited to one or more of an entire scoring box carrying case and contents, an entire reel pair carrying case and contents, a reel pair carrying case with the floor cords removed, and a single floor cord.
    • With the endorsement of the Executive Committee Oct. 10, 2007: Until further notice the fees shall be the least possible price computed based on fees of $37.50 per complete set per week, $5.36 per complete set per day, $3.10 per scoring box case per day, $2.25 per reel case per day, $2.06 per reel case without floor cords per day, and $0.20 per floor cord per day. (This is all based on the rental fee recommended by the Executive Committee for 2006-2007 loans of $75 for two sets of scoring equipment per week.)

The Equipment

Equipment is normally lent by the "set", the "red set" and/or the "yellow set".

The "Red Set"

The "red set" has red markings on all items, to distinguish them from the comparable items in the "Yellow Set". The "red set" consists of a carrying case containing the scoring box and accessories, and a carrying case containing two reels and two floor cords.

The Scoring Box Case of the "Red Set"

One Favero FULL-ARM-05/T scoring box Favero FULL-ARM-05/T scoring box, including remote" control remote control for the Favero FULL-ARM-05 (not required to use box without timer and score display), "battery charger" (combination scoring box power supply and battery charger) battery charger (yes, it looks like it is for 230 volts, but it works on 120 volts) with an attached European-to-United States plug adapter European-to-United States plug adapter, a 1 meter male-to-female DIN power extension cord (not illustrated), a rechargeable battery rechargeable battery, a "1m high stand" 1m high stand which can optionally be used to hold the box 1 meter above the edge of a table (it mounts with an adjustable clamp, but because of the limited travel of the clamp screw, it will not mount on tables if there is a rim around the edge of the table which is more than 2" thick and not strong or broad enough for the clamp to be applied to the rim), the instruction manual (not illustrated), and a storage case to hold all of this carrying case for the scoring box and accessories.

The Reel Case of the "Red Set"

Two Favero Millennium reels Favero Millennium reel, two floor cords (not illustrated), the instruction manual (not illustrated), and a storage case to hold all of this carrying case for the reels and cables

The "Yellow Set"

The "yellow set" is effectively identical to the "red set", except that all items have yellow markings, to distinguish them from the comparable items in the "red Set". The "yellow set" consists of a carrying case containing the scoring box and accessories, and a carrying case containing two reels and two floor cords.

Additional Items

Besides the "red set" and the "yellow set", the Division owns a small number of additional items, none likely to be of interest in their current condition. The most valuable single item is an Escrime Technologies St. George scoring box, model 21 version 1 St. George 21 version 1. It is uncertain exactly what timing rules it uses, but at best it is "old timings".
